From Source Code to Story
Mark Ramm's Author Page.
For years, my job was to look at the source code—to find the bugs in the system, understand the logic, and help build frameworks that were more robust and resilient.
As an open-source developer, that meant working with software. I believe that the stories we tell are the code that runs our society. So I have been writing stories about possible futures, stories that I hope give us new ways of thinking about the future.
Science fiction, for me, is the ultimate thought experiment.
It's the literary equivalent of forking a repository. You take the world as it is, change a critical variable, and compile the result to see what happens. It's a way to stress-test our own operating system.
My name is Mark Ramm, and this Substack is where I'll be sharing those thought experiments.
My first story, which begins tomorrow, is called #ElbowsUp. It's an attempt to debug a constitutional crisis.
I hope you'll subscribe and join the exploration.
